Jessica Stare Valant, MSPT, PMA-CPT

President
Physical Therapist, PMA Certified Pilates Instructor, Nutrition Coach

Jessica received a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy degree in 2000 and began her career working in orthopedic rehabilitation where she gained experience with a variety of sports injuries, inflammatory conditions, and surgical procedures.

When she was introduced to Pilates later that year she quickly realized the potential for healing when integrating core Pilates principles with traditional rehabilitation. She began teaching Pilates in 2001 and holds a dual certification in both the Polestar and Stott methods, and is a certified Pilates Method Alliance Pilates Instructor. She has also trained under Elizabeth Larkam and Brent Anderson, PT. She began nutrition coaching in 2005 and, after seeing the powerful effects of combining this with exercise and personal empowerment, Harmony Pilates & Physical Therapy was born.

Jessica combines her enthusiasm and experience with her knowledge of injuries, advanced Pilates concepts, and nutrition to create a holistic and individualized approach to overall health and wellness.

Our Instructors & Physical Therapists

Yasha Siemienski has always enjoyed being physically active - from kickboxing and yoga to golf and paddleboarding. She tried Pilates over three years ago and was hooked. She loved how it synthesized elements she had enjoyed in different types of exercise. As she learned more, she became passionate about Pilates' long-term benefits, and now considers Pilates crucial to improving and extending people's quality of life. Yasha trained as a teacher in the Stott Method of Pilates in 2008. Her training includes Mat, Reformer, Cadillac and Stability Chair, and she specializes in the runner and prenatal populations. She aspires to help people create balance and energy in mind, body and spirit through beautifully trained movement!
Lahela Hekekia found her passion for Pilates through a diagnosis of scoliosis and subsequent chronic pain that began when she was 19 years old. After two years of daily Pilates practice starting in 2007, new x-rays showed dramatic improvement in the curvature of her spine. Her love of Pilates led her to teaching, which she has been doing for over 4 years. Lahela has worked with clients of all physical abilities, including those with spinal injuries, stroke survivors, Olympic athletes, and Cirque du Soleil acrobats. Lahela is certified through STOTT PILATES® and THE PILATES METHOD ALLIANCE®. In addition, she is Hawaii's first (and as of 2011, only) Certified Franklin Method® Educator. Lahela looks forward to meeting you and helping you to move more joyfully.
Monica Schutt, DPT, CPT, earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University in 2001. While she is originally from Michigan, her husband’s occupation has kept them traveling. Embracing her diverse locations, she has been drawn to outpatient orthopedics and has used each experience to grow as a practitioner. In 2005, Monica had the opportunity to study Pilates with Real Iscawitz, and became a Body Arts and Science International (BASI) Certified Pilates Teacher. Most recently, she has been living in Spain teaching in a Spanish Pilates studio and earning her Pilates Method Alliance Certification in 2009. Relocating to Hawaii in October of 2010, Monica is ready to share her enthusiasm for wellness to assist clients in achieving their personal balance.
Tara Tannenholz, PT, has been active all her life, starting with snowboarding in the mountains of of the western United States. She received her degree in Physiotherapy in Southern Australia in 2002, and moved to Hawaii shortly thereafter. She worked in various orthopedic outpatient settings before finding Pilates in 2010. She loves bringing her physical therapy background, knowledge and love for people together with Pilates concepts. She received her Pilates Mat Teacher Training through Harmony Pilates in 2011 and has recently completely her Pilates Equipment Teacher Training with us. She enjoys surfing and getting to the beach as much as possible.
Hillary Brown moved to Hawaii 10 years ago, but began her career as a dancer at the age of 4 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was first introduced to Pilates at Harmony Pilates Studio through physical therapy for a knee injury. She fell in love with Pilates and found it shared many of the same philosophies she used in teaching dance. In 2008, Hillary suffered a major stroke, leaving her unable to speak and her right side paralyzed. She returned to Harmony for rehabilitation, and worked extremely hard for two years to make amazing gains. She credits a great deal of her miraculous recovery to the Pilates Method. “My doctors told me that I would not be where I am today if I had not been in such good shape before the stroke. I credit that, and my body awareness, to Pilates. Pilates helped me return to dancing after near death. I owe my life to Pilates.” She graduated from the Harmony Mat Teacher Training program in 2010, and is now working towards her Harmony Equipment Teacher Training Diploma. She shares her passion for Pilates with her dance students and clients, in hopes that the method will help others the way it helped her.
