What is Pilates?
Developed in the 1920’s by Joseph H. Pilates, the Pilates Method is a form of exercise, injury rehabilitation, and overall body conditioning that incorporates posture, breathing, flexibility, balance and strengthening. By focusing specifically on abdominal control, pelvic stabilization, and neutral spine – what Pilates calls the “powerhouse” – a person is taught to stabilize the trunk while moving the arms and legs freely. The result is improved strength, energy and flexibility, and correction of body imbalances and poor movement patterns. The goal of Pilates training, beyond slimming and strengthening, is to teach you to be confident and in control of your body and to use it to your greatest advantage.
What we offer
Health in Harmony is a full service Pilates studio, offering individual lessons and group classes in an intimate and energizing environment. During your first visit we will discuss your specific goals and develop a plan to help you reach them. You will always work with a certified and highly qualified Pilates instructor. We have a variety of state-of–the-art equipment and apparatus to aid you in your workouts. Whether you chose to continue with private lessons or group classes, you will receive instruction and exercises that are tailored to your fitness level and individual needs.
Private lessons
Are you looking to improve performance in your specific sport? Do you have an injury you are recovering from? Do you want to strengthen after having a baby? Private lessons may be most effective for you. In these 55 minute sessions you will receive one-on-one instruction from a certified Pilates instructor. Exercises will be based on your fitness level, injuries, goals and strengths. You will learn the basic principles of Pilates and how to apply them in different areas of your life. We can also create a customized home program for times you are away from the studio. We will use your strengths and what motivates you to develop your personalized Pilates program.
Classes
Classes are a fun and energizing way to incorporate Pilates into your fitness regime. We offer a variety of equipment and mat classes to meet your needs. Classes are 55 minutes long and class sizes are small to ensure you receive individual attention and maintain proper form throughout the exercises. For your benefit and safety, a minimum of three private sessions are required before participating in group classes (speak with the instructor if you have previous Pilates experience).
